Consortium LGBT+: Racial Justice Consultation

Strategy
Participatory Research
Consortium is a national umbrella organisation that hosts the UK’s largest network of LGBT+ community and voluntary organisations, providing specialist support to build stronger LGBT+ communities in the country.
The Project Brief
Consortium commissioned us to build a picture of the landscape for organisations working on the intersection of LGBT+ identity and racial justice; identify the key barriers faced; and co-develop recommendations to shape Consortium’s racial justice strategy.
Our Approach
Drawing on our expertise in strategy development and research, as well as our understanding of, and experience of working in racially marginalised LGBT+ communities, the strategic report aims to identify opportunities for Consortium as an infrastructure organisation to better support LGBT+ racial justice organisations, and to promote more equitable practices in the LGBT+ sector.
Impact
Over the past three months, we have consulted a range of intersectional racial justice organisations and external stakeholders via interviews to capture their view on the current landscape of the LGBT+ racial justice sector. Based on a thematic analysis of the data collected, we have scoped out opportunities and actions for Consortium and the sector to strengthen racial justice in the sector, and produced an internal report for Consortium with our recommendations.
